Season 2007/08 got underway on Sat 1 st September with the annual sixes club challenge. A slightly disappointing turn-out resulted in only six teams engaging in a round-robin battle for the trophy. We had 7 members of the Ladies section, 30 from the men’s teams and 8 new players mainly from our Youth coaching sessions. To compensate for the youths lack of experience all teams were allowed 7 players - all carefully selected by our Men’s Club Captain Gordon Johnston . With a pleasing number of players turning up early to help (many thanks to you all) we were able to get the event off to a start at 10.30am as planned – first time we have managed to meet the programme in six years. On paper the teams looked fairly even (unusual for Doc!!) and it was made even more even when many of the players from the top end of the club failed to demonstrate why they play at that level. Games were a mere sprint at 10 minutes each way but never-the-less a load of goals were scored. At the end of it all the final positions were as follows:- |

We tried hard to prevent Chef’s team lifting the trophy for the second consecutive time by making them play three games on the trot towards the end but they still scraped through. The Youth player of the tournament award went to future Ladies star ROBYN HENDERSON for her consistent performance throughout the event. Thanks to all who attended and thanks to all the umpires, especially Bill “Rusty” Ruzzak for umpiring all day (except for the one game when it rained). There was good weather, good company, some good laughs and occasionally good hockey – but what we missed most of all was Sheila’s good BBQ food. |
